SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AT THE CLUB

Where to find out what's on.

If you are unsure as to what is on at the club just click on the 'General' header on the website menu- it's at the top and it will list 'Diary' as the first item - click on it to see the content.
That will open up the diary to reveal the current month from which you can look at anything already booked into the system - including golf and social events.
Keep an eye on the Social notice boards in the clubhouse for any new events coming up.

THE QUIZ

Wednesday 31st May
Hi,
Some of you will recall that on Wednesday 19th April we held our first ever quiz during what may euphemistically be called 'summer' months. Over 50 stalwarts turned out again and had what can only be described as the craziest quiz night we have ever staged.
The actual quiz had new winners, namely Simons Women based on Simon Holmes family and Glynis Armstrong. They scored 77 with 2 teams tying on 73 for runners up -Terry's All Gold (Lady Captain, Richard, Brian Stone and his good lady) and Music Maestro Please (previously known as Phil Mcleans LPS but have clearly been cramming their music knowledge).
We then moved onto the session of Play Your Cards Right-with new guidelines for winning the jackpot, now restricted to £100. Numerous previous attempts had failed dismally and this occasion was no different from the outset.
First lucky drawn ticket was held by Frank Radcliffe, who made a game attempt but blew it on a pair.
As agreed another ticket was drawn -this time held by a previous attemptee, Hazel Ebling. The previous experience counted for nothing as Hazel, going for the last card turnover for £100, conspired to draw another matching pair and exited the game.
The audience shouted for another attempt and I drew a further ticket. This time it was Sophie Holmes, fresh from her winning performance in the quiz. All to no avail though as she also blew it!
By this time most people in the room couldn't believe the run of bad luck and requested yet another draw - won by Brian Stone. Yet again, a matching pair ended that brief attempt.
At this point the question master was almost on his knees praying for someone to end the sequence of losers!
A final draw of the night was made and the 'lucky' ticket holder was Jean Mildren.
Jean managed to successfully negotiate her way through the cards - helped on her way by a king and an ace in the correct places. Finally, the jackpot of £100 was handed over after 11 attempts at giving it away since September.

Overall it was a thoroughly entertaining night, if a bit tiring by the end, and I was asked to hold another one during each of the summer months. Whilst the intention is to do so dates may prove a little more tricky but I'll try.

Consequently, the next quiz will be held on Wednesday 31st May commencing at the usual time of 7pm. PUT IT IN YOUR DIARY! It is not 18th May as listed in the club diary. Nothing to do with me "guvnor".
The jackpot prize for PYCR will be set when all the information is to hand and announced before the evening, but likely to start at £50.
My thanks to all that attended and produced a great night. Finally, thanks again to Jean and Penny for their help with the tickets and funds.
I'll send further information nearer the time.
Take care
Bill
